Origins
The origins of this ancient coastal path are little known.

It is known that, in the 14th century, some sections already existed to facilitate the island’s defense. Later, with the construction of coastal watchtowers against pirate incursions, a perimeter path circling the island became more necessary.
In the 18th century, the English administration considered it a “Camino Real” (Royal Road) and, at the same time, it was already being used as a public communication route.
