Menorca is famous for its patron saint festivals<\/strong><\/a> which are celebrated throughout the year. Here we present the calendar of festivals 2026 <\/a><\/strong>and information about protocols, customs and traditions. It includes tips, safety recommendations and information about transportation on the island. <\/span><\/h3>\n

Introduction to the parties<\/span><\/h2>\n

The festivities of San Juan “Sant Joan<\/strong><\/a>” in Ciutadella<\/a><\/strong> kick off the calendar of festivities with the“d\u00eda des be<\/strong>“(June 20 and 21, <\/strong>Saturday before the festivities), in which the (fabioler<\/strong><\/a>) plays the first traditional“toc de tambor<\/strong>“, which kicks off the celebrations that fill the streets with joy and jubilation. Then during the 23rd and 24th of June<\/strong> is when the traditional “Jaleos” are celebrated Jaleos <\/strong><\/a>and the “Caragol des Born<\/strong>“.

\r\n \"Guided\r\n<\/a><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n

The festivities culminate with the spectacular” Jocs des Pla<\/strong>” in the port of Ciudadela. These are medieval games, in which riders on horseback and at full gallop, try to catch the rings hung with their spears. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is followed by the patron saint festivities of “Sant Mart\u00ed<\/strong><\/a>” in Es Mercadal <\/strong>on the 18th<\/strong>, 19th<\/strong> and 20th of July<\/strong>, followed by those of the rest of the towns on the island. <\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the year we will be updating all the information along with the schedule of the different festivals of each town, so you don’t miss the excitement, tradition and joy of the festivities of Menorca! <\/span><\/p>\n

June<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ciutadella<\/strong>: <\/span><\/span>Sant Joan,<\/span> (Saint John) – 23rd and 24th June.<\/span> <\/span><\/h3>\n

Celebrate the most magical night of the year at the festivities of <\/span>Ciutadella<\/a><\/strong>!. Live a week full of emotions in the traditional festivities of the horses. Discover its deep-rooted customs in the numerous festive and cultural events that take place in the streets of the center of the town, such as the famous caragol des Born and Ses Voltes, or the spectacular medieval games des Pla (Jocs des Pla) that take place in its beautiful port. Es Mercadal<\/strong>: <\/span><\/span>Sant Mart\u00ed, (Saint Martin). <\/span>– Third weekend of July.<\/span> <\/span><\/h3>\n

Enjoy the patron saint festivities, local traditions, and the famous gastronomy of this central town of Es Mercadal. <\/span>Es Mercadal<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>. During these days you can enjoy a multitude of cultural, sporting and musical events for all tastes and ages. Fornells<\/strong>: <\/span><\/span>Sant Antoni, (Saint Anthony) <\/span>– Fourth weekend of July. <\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Es Migjorn Gran<\/strong>:<\/span><\/span> Sant Crist\u00f2fol, (Saint Christopher) – Fifth weekend of July or first weekend of August. <\/span><\/h3>\n

You can not miss the festivities of Es Migjorn Gran <\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong>which celebrate <\/span><\/span>in honor of their patron saint. In this charming village in the south of the island is celebrated a spectacular jaleo<\/span> is held in a small square overflowing with people, and enlivened by its famous music band, which plays the mythical “samba” at the end of the jaleo. Es Mercadal<\/strong> \/ Monte Toro: Sant Nicolau, (Saint Nicholas) – Second weekend of September.<\/span><\/h3>\n

A unique combination of religious and pagan traditions is experienced in Es Mercadal, during the festivities that are celebrated on the mountain of El Toro<\/a><\/strong>. Enjoy the jaleo of horses in a unique setting, with spectacular views of the whole island and the participation of caixers invited from all the towns. During the holidays:<\/span><\/h3>\n

Respect horses and “cavallers”.<\/h3>\n

Do not touch the reins or any element of the horses while they are running. Act with common sense and prudence.<\/p>\n

Wear appropriate footwear<\/h3>\n

Avoid flip-flops. They do not allow you to react quickly if you have to avoid a horse.<\/p>\n

Hazelnuts with softness<\/h3>\n

Throwing hazelnuts is an act of affection. They should be thrown gently, never with the intention of hurting.<\/p>\n

Open aisle<\/h3>\n

In the Jocs des Pla and corregudes, collaborate to open a corridor so that the horses and “Cavallers” can run safely and spectacularly.<\/p>\n

Beware of strollers<\/h3>\n

It is dangerous to drive around crowded areas with strollers for small children. Avoid these elements, as they endanger the children and also the party.<\/p>\n

Using the toilets<\/h3>\n

Use the public toilets installed in different parts of the city or in bars. Urinating in the street is an action that may result in a fine.<\/p>\n

It is necessary to be informed of the events of the festival and its traditions. The essence of the festival must be respected at all times and an attitude of collaboration must be maintained.<\/p>\n

Common sense and prudence<\/h3>\n

If you do not know the party and the horses, it is better to be cautious. A horse has a lot of strength and is a risk for those who do not know how to handle it.<\/p>\n

Avoiding excesses<\/h3>\n

Both Sant Joan as well as the rest of the festivities, are parties with horses and crowds, and therefore you have to be in perfect condition to react. An excessive consumption of alcohol can put at risk the person who consumes it and also the party itself.<\/p>\n

Bottles and cans<\/h3>\n

Throwing bottles and cans on the ground can pose a danger to horses. Most falls are caused precisely by these elements.<\/p>\n
