History

The lighthouse was built in 1922. To do so, the rock of the area was used, so today we can still see a few meters from it the quarry that was opened to build it.

The construction of this lighthouse as well as the one at Punta Nati was largely motivated by the shipwrecks that occurred after the inauguration of the Cavalleria lighthouse. lighthouse of Cavalleria.

Special repercussions were caused by the disasters that occurred with the steamships “Isaac Pereyre” in 1906 and “General Chanzy” in 1910.

The first one provided mail service between Marseilles and Algeria, at the same point where in March 1898 the steamship “Ville de Rome”, also belonging to the French General Transatlantic Company, had already been wrecked.
