Craft spirits

Menorca produces wonderful artisan liqueurs. These are made following ancient recipes and are a clear example of the influence left by the different cultures and civilisations that have passed through the island over the centuries, as well as the conquests and dominations suffered at the hands of the Arabs, Romans, French and English.

Handcrafted production – local product

In addition to Gin Xoriguer, which is closely linked to Menorca’s popular festivals (where it is traditional to drink ‘pomada’, a combination of gin and lemonade), Menorca also produces excellent artisan liqueurs.

Most of these artisanal liqueurs are made with fruits and aromatic herbs harvested on the island, which are macerated in beet alcohol for several months.

Distilleries

Among the distilleries that can be found on the island, the liqueurs of Biniarbolla (one of the oldest on the island) stand out. They make their liqueurs using the traditional recipes of the monks of the Monte Toro convent, who formerly produced these wonderful digestive and medicinal drinks.

Xoriguer Distilleries: This distillery uses entirely natural ingredients, without preservatives or artificial colourings, and produces the famous Xoriguer Gin, which is used to make the typical ‘pomada’ drink enjoyed at festivals in Menorca.
