On the island, you will also find high-quality wines, produced organically and in a completely artisanal way, with a wide selection of red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines.
Tradition
Menorca is a land of Mediterranean customs and traditions, having produced wine since the era of the Roman Empire.
This winemaking tradition was preserved during the Moorish conquest and continued until the 17th century, when it reached its peak under British rule.
Recovery
Currently, this winemaking activity is being revitalized after nearly two centuries of decline. Since the mid-1980s, several wineries have emerged, producing excellent organic and artisanal wines with a great quality-to-price ratio.
Menorcan Wineries
Some of the most prominent wineries include Binitord in Ciutadella, Binifadet in Sant Lluís, Torralbenc in Alaior, and Bodegas Menorquinas in Es Mercadal. The latter was the first to obtain the Protected Geographical Indication status as “Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca” (Regional Wine).
Several of these wineries offer tours and events in their vineyards, including tastings and gastronomic workshops.
