Menorcan Ensaimada

No trip to Menorca is complete without picking up one of its famous, irresistible ensaimadas to take back home and share with friends and family.

The most iconic sweet treat in the Islands

This traditional pastry is the most popular delicacy across the Balearic Islands. While most people associate it with the classic Mallorcan version, Menorca also produces exceptional ensaimadas.

They are a staple at family gatherings and local celebrations, such as Menorca’s patron saint festivals, where the local favorite is the coca bamba—the island’s own distinct variety. It is best enjoyed with a rich, thick hot chocolate.

You can also find them filled with sobrasada, chocolate, pumpkin jam (cabello de ángel), or burnt cream—and they are absolutely delicious!

The world’s best ensaimada

Since 2020, Menorca has boasted two bakeries—Can Pons in Es Mercadal and Herbera in Ciutadella—which have rightfully earned the title of the world’s best ensaimada in two categories: the traditional plain version and the pumpkin jam-filled variety.

This 4th World Ensaimada Championship was held in Mallorca, featuring over 30 bakeries from Menorca, Mallorca, Barcelona, and Madrid.
